                                        Vision Statement

Native American fathers and mothers as models of parenting for

happy & safe families everywhere.

                                       Mission Statement

The Mission of Native American Fatherhood & Families Association (NAFFA) is to strengthen families by responsibly involving fathers in the

lives of their children, families and communities and partnering with

mothers to provide happy and safe families

                                                  Purpose

NAFFA provides leadership through training, information, technical assistance, and support to Native American tribal and non-tribal agencies, and urban organizations. NAFFA assists with planning, development, implementation, evaluation, and policies to ensure successful and effective Fatherhood programs. NAFFA trains program personnel to implement and teach an effective Fatherhood program.

NAFFA recognizes that traditionally, most services offered by tribal agencies focus primarily on the needs of women and children. Little attention was given to the unique needs of men as they struggle to become valuable participants in the family unit.

Fathers must lead their families. NAFFA defines a good leader as one who truly loves and cares for his family by bringing them happiness and safety through kind words, actions, and attitudes. When a father brings these elements to his family, they will wholeheartedly follow him.

For example, if you and your family come to a river and need to get to the other side for survival, would you send your children or wife to determine where to cross? No, the father notes the depth, swiftness, and other important elements for safe crossing. Then he and his wife determine the safest place and method for crossing. Father takes the lead. Wife and children follow the father because of the trust and love he consistently demonstrates.

NAFFA is building a “best practice” model with the Fatherhood is Sacredsm program. The program has deep roots in traditional Native American culture and beliefs.

Corporate Values

  1. The focus of this organization shall be on PEOPLE - PRINCIPALS - PROGRAMS in strengthening Native American families through promoting responsible fatherhood.

  2. We shall always honor and respect the heritage, traditions and culture of Native Americans.

  3. We believe that the family is the most important foundation in life.

  4. We recognize that fathers are a critical link encompassing the past, present and future, and while some may view fathers as the cause of the breakdown of the Native American family, they are in reality the basis of the solution and hope for the future.

  5. While our focus is on fathers, we do not diminish the equally important role of mothers in the family structure, and they shall be an integral part of our programs.

  6. We reach out to any person who identifies themselves as a Native American as well as anyone involved in raising Native American children who is seeking to build a successful relationship with children, family and community.
